Ways to help during the Texas Hurricane
Harvey has dumped a record amount of rain in Texas and it is only expected to get worse! You may feel like I do, and not know what you can do to help or what impact you would have on such a huge, devastating event, affecting around 7 million people!
There are several organizations and efforts coming to assist people in Texas:
Red cross has been removed for the time being as they are now being questioned on the amounts that are actually being given for relief. I personally would rather protect myself as well as everyone else until we know for sure what is really happening. Nothing but love and support from my end.
Global giving, a crowdfunding site, is trying to raise $2 million dollars in an effort to provide food, water, medicine, and long-term recovery assistance.
The Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund set up by Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, and administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.
Carter BloodCare covers hospitals in north, central and east Texas. To donate, call 877-571-1000 or text DONATE4LIFE to 444-999.
PLEASE, lets not forget about all the animals being displaced, losing their families and being stuck with no escape! You can help from afar here:
If you cannot give monies or donate items, they are also in need of blood donors.
Those interested in donating blood may contact the following organizations:
America’s Blood Centers
American Red Cross: 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767)
Armed Services Blood Program: 703-681-5979
Tim Kane, at Madison Highland Prep has started bottles of water to send to Houston, You can find information on their school website or email him at email@example.com. The school will have multiple drop off sites at the school with 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. drop off times during the week.
What else Can we do??
While a lot of organizations are asking for monetary donations and trying to stray away from clothing and such, People who are being struck by this hurricane need clothing, diapers, wipes, formula, socks and shoes, literally EVERYTHING they had, is now gone. If you aren’t able to donate money, look around your home and find things you don’t use or need and donate!! Here is a link to AMAZON to purchase diapers that will go directly to Texas to help!
